About the Blog
What is this blog about?
Primarily Japanese History and Culture, with a dash of tourism advice thrown in for good measure. I will write about Japanese History in an informative and hopefully entertaining way whilst doing my best to present Japanese culture as it is, trying to avoid the trap of idolising all things Japanese. As for the tourism stuff, I intend to provide you with a guide to what Japan is, what it isn’t, and how to make the most of your time in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Who is this blog for?
History nerds enthusiasts, and people with an interest in all things Japan, whether you’ve only been there in your dreams, you’re a seasoned visitor, or even you happen to live here!
How often do you post new content?
At the time of writing, I aim to publish content twice a week (as of June 4, 2025), but this frequency will hopefully increase as I build momentum.
Travel & Tourism
Can I use your articles to help plan my trip to Japan?
I certainly hope so! I mix practical advice with real-world examples. I also make sure to get my advice checked by Japanese family and colleagues to make sure I’m not setting anyone up for a faux pas!
Do you recommend places based on your own travel experience?
I do! I’ve been fortunate enough to live and work in Japan since 2012, and during that time, I’ve had the chance to visit all kinds of places. If a place appears in an article of mine, rest assured that I actually went there!
Japanese History Content
How accurate is your historical content?
I do my best to make sure that everything I write is sourced where possible. My intention is to inform, and entertain, so I’ll definitely add my own take on things from time to time, but I work hard to ensure that everything I say is accurate, or at least backed up with the best data I have available!
Can I use your history posts for school or research?
You’re welcome to, but I want to point out that a) I’m not a professional historian, and b) this blog isn’t going to be full of academic texts. I will cite whatever sources I use, and you’re more than welcome to use what I write for your own research, as long as you cite my blog when you do!
About the Author
Who writes this blog?
Me! I’m Chris Perry, a professional, full-time educator and an amateur, definitely part-time historian, currently living and working in Japan, where I’ve been since 2012.
What is your background?
I’m originally from the UK, and my fascination with Japan began in my early childhood. My professional background is in education. I’m a qualified Elementary School teacher, and I worked in Early Years Education in both the UK and Japan before making the change to Elementary School in 2022.
Can you speak Japanese?
Reasonably well. I avoid the word fluent because that gives the impression that I’m much better at speaking Japanese than I am. I can get by without too much trouble; just don’t ask me to read too many Kanji!
Why did you start this blog?
To share my passion for Japanese history and provide useful information for visitors, whether they be tourists or history enthusiasts like myself!
Can I contact you for collaborations or guest posts?
Definitely! If you have any ideas for posts, or you want to work on something together, then don’t be afraid to reach out!
